Staying Focused on Your Goal
As January comes to end already, are you staying on top of your New Year’s resolutions? This post will give you tips and advice to keep yourself motivated throughout the year. Goals are the base of the pyramid, without them it is impossible to climb to the top. Goals are the milestones to accomplish what you are passionate about and work so hard for. Think of your goal as an umbrella, where the top of the umbrella is lifetime goals and down each branch of the umbrella includes the things that you can do in the next five years, then next year, next month, next week, all the way down to today. It is important to have both long-term and short- term goals to work towards.
According to MindTools, “Golden Rules of Goal Setting,” when making a list of your own personal goals, keep in mind this acronym SMART. Goals can include career, financial, family, physical…it is about what YOU want to achieve.
S- Specific
M- Measurable
A- Attainable
R- Realistic
T-Timely
Set goals, by marking dates/times so that you can measure progress. For example, By May 15, 2018, I want to cut 5 seconds off my mile swim time. Track your progress. If you do this, you’ll know how long you worked to accomplish the goal and be able to feel proud when completed. Also, having goals written down where you can see them every day helps to stay focused on what is important. It is the same concept as a vision board, if you see it every day you visualize what you want. Prioritize your goals and make it a daily habit to incorporate hard work and dedication towards your personal goals. Before you know it, progress has been made and you are checking off the goal off your list. Don’t give up, each person/goal has their own timeline, just stay focused! Keep a positive outlook when working towards your goal. If at first you don’t succeed, try again!
